DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY - AFTER THE STORM

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 May, 2015, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 May, 2015, 6pm CET

Our previous challenge “The Tempest” explored the chaos and devastation that Mother Nature can unleash on the earth, when in the grip of a stormy mood. Even the fiercest fires don’t burn forever though, and every storm has its subsequent calm. For our “After the Storm” challenge, it’s the gentle aftermath we’re asking you to focus on, those moments when the storm clouds have cleared and the earth appears itself once again.

Imagine the subdued pitter-patter of dripping tree branches, heavy with water from the recent deluge. Fragments of delicate flowers and plants are washed downriver, swept along with the newly flooded currents. The whole world looks as though it’s been washed clean and returned to order, but traces of the recent squall remain in tattered feathers and crumpled petals, as if the storm had abandoned its work halfway through. We’re looking for roughly painted watercolors, or unfinished sketches that show us your vision of the calm after the storm.

What can you win?

Each winner receives a one-off prize of 200€ once the collection launches on the website plus a sample of their products when it arrives in stock. But that is not all – if your design receives 500 orders on wholesale, you will receive an additional €200. This means that FRS can continue to embody the spirit of fashion democracy, rewarding our top designs again...and again...and again! We will also conduct an interview with the winner, publicizing their design across the fashion community in Berlin and worldwide.

    S/S 16 WOMEN'S ACCESSORIES COLOR FORECASTS

by FASHION SNOOPS

The Spring/Summer 2016 Women’s Accessories Color Forecast is here, and Fashion Snoops has identified four key palettes: Soft Nostalgia, Backyard, Desert Bloom, and Heirloom. Soft Nostalgia plays the most important role with a continuation of pastels that became notably more saturated, with blues as an essential take-away. Desert Bloom refreshes the notion of neutrals not only with new base tones, but with enticing fashion colors that offer a new perspective. Backyard addresses the important brights of the season in fully saturated colors. Finally, while jewel tones are not typically associated with Spring, heirlooms remain relevant with both familiar and newly added hues.

We have compiled this information into a special report for Fashion Vignette members, courtesy of Fashion Snoops – where the full reports are available exclusively to subscribers. The full version of the trend report featured here is available now for individual purchase in the Fashion Vignette Trend Shop.

    SOFT NOSTALGIA (PASTELS)
Soft Nostalgia addresses pastels as one of the most important groups of the season, lead notably by Blue Hydrangea. Pink is also a focus from the peach tinted Rose Champagne to the whitened Ice Pink. Other fashion pastels include the more saturated hues of Lavender mist, Lemon Chiffon and Sea Glass. Neutral bases tones include the fleshy Butt and the soft Dust grey.

BLUE HYDRANGEA

Blue Hydrangea pushes the S/S 15 color of New York Sky forward with a slight dusting of purple, creating a softer hue of blue. ROSE CHAMPAGNE

This warm shade of Rose Champagne combines the previous seasons shades of Blush from S/S 15 and Dusty Rose from F/W 15/16. Creating a slightly more saturated pastel tone.

BONE

Bone continues the popular shade of Ivory from the F/W 15/16 season and the S/S 15 shade of Sand. This season Bone gets a softer yellow cast as opposed to the creamier shades of the previous seasons.

LEMON CHIFFON

Lemon Chiffon evolves from the S/S 15 shade of Custard. This season becomes much softer, putting in the pastel category.

    BACKYARD (BRIGHTS)
Backyard brights offer a lively conversation anchored by warm and cool hues. Orangey reds play a pivotal role in both Vermilion and Candy Apple, while Canary offers a brightly saturated yellow. Another popular commercial option is Electric Blue, while Periwinkle really brings something new to the table.

DAFFODIL

    DESERT BLOOM (NEUTRALS)
The Desert Bloom color palette combines earthy neutrals along with emerging fashion colors. Richer bases like Dark Roast and Olive enliven base hues of Hazy Taupe and Soil. Red casted Persimmon, orange casted Copper and yellow Caramel play influential roles. Cooler hues included Moss and Charcoal.

DARK ROAST

    PERSIMMON

MOSS

    HEIRLOOM (JEWEL TONES)
Jewel tones remain relevant for Spring/Summer with a new offering of Heirlooms. Red and green continue to play the most significant roles, including familiar shades of dark Burgundy. Green becomes more influenced by blues with Evergreen and Dark Teal colors. While Navy progresses as an influential base color, Indigo offers a new alternative. Grape purple is featured as a new fashion color.

BURGUNDY

Burgundy continues to be a strong color for S/S 16 evolving from F/W 15/16 Burgundy and S/S 15 Vineyard and Red Dahlia. This season the shade becomes much deeper with reddish undertones.

DARK TEAL

S/S 16 Dark Teal continues the S/S 15 shade of Poseidon. Lightening up for S/S 16, Dark Teal introduces green undertones.

DESIGN COMPETITION // FRONT ROW SOCIETY - THE TEMPEST

CREATIVE BRIEF

Submission Deadline: 15 May, 2015, 6pm CET
Voting Starts: 16 May, 2015, 6pm CET

The natural world is a glorious treasure trove of inspiration, containing a breathtaking variety of living forms in all their myriad colors and textures. Lulled by sweeping vistas and lush landscapes, it’s can be easy to overlook nature’s darker side. Which is why our latest design challenge focuses on those fits of rage that engulf the earth in a devastating outburst of howling gales and torrential rains.

Imagine glowering black storm clouds rolling across the skies, split by forks of jagged lightning and accompanied by crashing rumbles of thunder. Rushing floods of water appear in an instant, engulfing everything in their path, while raging winds tear across the earth, ripping up tree roots to leave gaping wounds in the earth. We want to see designs that reveal the unforgiving wrath of nature, so use all the tools at your disposal; whether through mixed media or digital techniques we’re looking forward to seeing the beauty of the storm in all its rough, textural glory.

WOMEN'S FALL 2016 KEY COLOR TREND PRESENTATION

Here is a preview of Candy Pastels, a directional color group trend for Fall/Winter 2016-17 as predicted by Trendstop. These youthful and sugary shades introduce a feel of girlhood nostalgia, recalling the milky effect of the Crayola pencils used at school.

    TRANSSEASONAL MOOD

Ideal for your first intake at the end of summer, this aspect of the Candy Pastels trend demonstrates how color is becoming much more transeasonal in fashion; the lines between seasonal intakes are blurring, and sales are starting earlier. As a result, lighter shades like these will be key for F/W16, bringing a touch of summery warmth to your deeper winter collection. We see how sweet pink, peach, lilac and mint tones look clean on spongy surfaces like neoprene, while cozy oversized knits create comfort.

    A SPORTS INFLUENCE

Candy Pastels can also be applied to collections with an activewear aesthetic, executed with simple yet contemporary shapes. Must-have pieces like tank tops, running shoes and cropped sweats are key. Apparel silhouettes can be saturated in a single pastel shade for a new take on minimal styling, while mixed color detailing adds interest in the form of contrast necklines or tactile stripe placements.
