WOMEN'S S/S 2017 TOP FORECASTED GRAPHICS

Fashion Snoops presents the SS 17 top forecasted graphic themes. For women, exploring other cultures and appreciating their traditional design processes is the main objective for Spring. This information has been compiled into a special report for Fashion Vignette members, courtesy of Fashion Snoops. The full version of the trend report is available now for individual purchase in the Fashion Vignette Trend Shop.

    GEOMETRICAL

Bauhaus is a strong movement for Spring 17, as the “house of constructions” recognizable geometrics create strong screens as well as all over patterns. Sonia & Robert Delaunay, Frank Stella and Ausguste Herbin are all artists of interest here.

    HAVANA TILES

The tiles of Havana show how they have been well used and loved, as the color and details are fading away. There is of course a perfectly symmetrical repeat created as florals dominate the designs. Colors vary between pastel pigments and vibrant formations.

    POWERFUL MESSAGE

Sitting alongside Abandoned, we are viewing the world from a negative standpoint, which comes to life via screen messages of consumerism, and unfulfilled dreams, which are strengthened with newspaper and digitally glitches textures.

    TRANSIENT

Transient is our second world traveler story, as we see an eloquent nomad, as she travels from place to place with layering her silhouette, combining her prints and ultimately adapting to her newest surroundings. Patchwork is of course an important component, although is tonal, less contrasted and maturely subtle. Moroccan lamps and their light reflections adds a delicate nature to this story, as Indonesian florals add cultural strength.

    WASHED AWAY

Washed away is our second dye effect, as we see fabrics, which have faded and eroded due to the harsh conditions of the ocean. The palette is of gentle blues and greys and there is a serenity that only comes from listening to the crashing waves.

Key Material Trends from Premiere Vision Paris F/W 2016-17

A must-see event for fashion professionals, Premiere Vision Fabrics is one of the industry’s leading fabric fairs, featuring fashion directions 18 months in advance. For the Fall/Winter 2016-17 edition, PV revamped cultural, creative and tech concepts. Designs combined industry and futurism with contemporary crafts and rustic nature, creating a forward aesthetic based firmly in the present. Autumnal comfort was a key component in fabric collections, as themes of flawed elegance added a softly distressed twist to padding and quilting. Discover three inspirational Premiere Vision materials trends courtesy of Trendstop.

FUTURISM MELDS WITH RUSTIC NATURE

    LUNAR CRINKLE

Technical materials evolve with crisp, crunchy finishes to create a crinkled effect. To create a futuristic look, a lunar-inspired glow can be applied to cratered surfaces with the use of shimmering metallic finishes or dark Space Age color ways.

    SOFT PIXELS

Images courtesy of Trendstop.com: Monotex-Shinheung, Philea, Gentili, all Fall/Winter 2016-17.

High-tech pixel prints are softened for Fall/Winter with subdued tones and blurry effects, revamping fabrics with a contemporary digitized aesthetic. For a high-end appeal, technical designs translate to luxury level with burn-out lacy textures and satin finishes.

    SCANDI INSPIRED

Perfect for new winter collections, we see cozy knits executed in soft wooly yarns that look reminiscent of traditional Scandinavian patterns. Meanwhile, Nordic interiors inspire graphic upholstery prints with a retro feel. Surfaces run the gamut from soft to rustic.

FEATURE // SYLVIA COHEN . FASHION DESIGNER/ILLUSTRATOR

Sylvia Cohen is a Montreal based Fashion Designer and Illustrator, who combines a love of painting and fashion to give life to her images.  Her work has evolved from a 15 years in Women's design while devoting her time between fashion design, illustration and painting.

Excavating imagery from an array of sources, she continually draws from fashion photography as well as current culture and trend.  Scanning photos and manipulating them to focus on specific details is the beginning of her process. She loves to play with light, color and orientation, where the negative space becomes just as intriguing.  Her illustrations draw on the symbiotic relationship between fashion and the mundane, where excess becomes fashionable and fashion excessive.

    ESCAPE

Inspired by rural island living, we escape to a scene of lush jungle greens and vivid brights. Materials & prints go on a cultural journey borrowing from many different indigenous tribes, coming back refreshed and revived. Wild nature brings forth raw unfinished textures and inspire breathtaking prints. Natural materials are paired with essential design, and craft is highlighted to bring to the fore the beauty of the handmade.

    BIO-LUMINARY

Light is becoming a new material shaping immaterial forms and changing the way we experience aesthetics. Technology enables us to go deeper into the recesses of the earth and explore natural light technologies. Looking towards nature and particularly the sea, deep into a mysterious place that offers much untapped inspiration. Iridescent surfaces and light reflective materials drive this trend coupled with a colour palette filled with high and low contrasts.

    FUTURE RETRO

The nostalgia of the 70s continues to grow until reaches its peak by the Spring/Summer 2017 season. The trend pays tribute to the happy and energetic side of the 70s where future design was an obsession, modernity is key and geometry is essential. The naïve and playful aspect is transformed with a bold colour palette that serves best the optical weaves and textured surfaces.

    FLOURISH

Delicate and refined, the trend re-introduces the notion of softness, femininity and romance with a strong focus on botanicals. Floral patterns are at the heart of design, interweaved with jacquards and lace. Ultra lightweight sheer layers are delicately wrapped around the body like clouds. The gentle aspect is not only conveyed with colour and pattern but with also the importance of ultra soft hand finishes.

Each forecast starts with a seasonal narrative and collage to set the mood and inspiration as you will see below. We hope that you are inspired by these SS 17 forecasts that are rich in cultural relevance and thought-provoking dimension!

We have compiled this information into a special report for Fashion Vignette members, courtesy of Fashion Snoops. The full version of the trend report is available now for individual purchase in the Fashion Vignette Trend Shop.

    DRIFT

Inspired by our Spring/Summer 2017 Visionary trend, Raw Coast, Drift references rugged natural landscapes and the beauty found in seaside minimalism. The women’s denim interpretation is heavily inspired by lakeside leisure with foamy waves, natural weathered surfaces, and ocean tides. Raw and distressed denim mimics organic textures and rock face erosion Loungewear, soft and slouchy interpretations, and nautical-striped finishes epitomize this perfectly understated trend. The idea of new luxury is inherent here, with perfection found in the simple meeting of woman and nature.

    CAFE' DE FLORE

This season’s Café de Flore trend story is the spring update to Fall’s Sunday Morning. The Athleisure movement continues to gain traction, underscoring this tailored and feminine woman. She cycles to the flower market on the weekend, sips coffee while browsing through candid Polaroid snaps, and enjoys a light lunch and a coffee to go. Soft chambray elements reveal life’s simple pleasures, while floral accents mix with a rustic café vibe to tell the development of the comfort culture story.

    LOVESTONED

Inspired by Fashion Snoops’ SS17 Transitional Visionary, Arise, Lovestoned tells the story of the psychedelic 70s. Further inspired by the hippy counterculture of the 1960s, this Woodstock woman is stimulated by hypnotic imagery and altered realities. Busy florals, vivid stitching, and embellished details add to the intricate feel. Pearlescent crystals, subdued hues, and patchwork elements create a soulful interpretation of 70s glamour.

    JUXTAPOZE

Inspired by Fashion Snoops’ SS17 Visionary Juxtapoze, an experimental shift in design motivates our Young Women’s Wonderland trend story. Opposites attract and quirky accents encourage a borderline street sensiblity. Her adventurous personality is embodied in her clothing; graphitized walls are translated into cartoon doodles and paint-splattered denim, while novelty cut-outs, sequined strokes, and clustered beading mimic multidimensional and interactive artworks. Deconstructed elements play an important role in establishing her enthusiastic irreverence, while translucent inserts hint at her transparent sense of self.

    ODE TO WANDERERS

As the waterfalls echo in the distance, our Ode to Wanderers woman explores her rainforest surroundings and the lush greenery encapsulating her being. It’s her quiet place, her solace. When she’s off-the-grid and at one with wild life in her treetop haven, she embodies what it means to be a true vagabond. Her surroundings inspire her denim – olive green, grey, and indigo washes mimic the deeply saturated rainforest hues, while ombré tones reference the changing palette of the sky.

CROSSWAYS

For Spring/Summer 17, flatbed knits are found at the crossroads.
Knit fantasy explores inter-crossings, ribs cultivate plays on intersections, engineered jacquards and motifs are inspired by junctions, clothing overlaps and is constructed by interlacings.

    COLOURS

Knits reveal a fresh harmony, a sophisticated and tonic mood dominated by the intensity and lightness of blues, soothed by a subtle, vegetal khaki and energized by the luminosity of orange.

    KNIT INTERCROSSINGS

Stitch plays trace our raised networks elaborated via transferred knits, tightened stitches and knit fantasy. Macro yarns trace similar paths, meet up and sketch out networks in jerseys. Open working reveals landscapes traversed by roads. Interlacings emerge in two-tones, in matt/shiny contrasts, by contrasting smooth/irregular yarn textures.

    LINE INTERSECTIONS

Knits evoke railways, drawing regular and waving parallel patterns. The ribs come together and separate, grow fine and expand to modify volumes. Jerseys are needled out with precision, to sketch out neat lines. Tubular bands of different proportions intertwine. Stripes are shifting; they deviate, come together and intersect.

    CROSSROAD PATTERNS

Jacquards, intarsias and prints are inspired by a road vocabulary, by lines drawn on the ground, arrows pointing the way, forks in the road and urban signage. Engineered motifs enrich their visual impact thanks to the use of fancy yarns and combinations of smooth/ grainy, powdery/gleaming, macro/micro, plains/throwns.

    CROSSED SHAPES

Garments are wrapped. Sweaters, jackets and dresses curl and tie around the body. Wraparound tops take centre stage, while tank tops multiply straps, which overlap each other in a sportswear spirit. Crossings and foldings become structuring elements of the silhouette. Openings are elaborated to pass through and fold back the knit panels. Shapes are intertwined and overlap in a linear way.
