My nephew Eric aka DJ Erock, my oldest brother's son owns countless of Air Jordans. Too many to mention but I always know what his latest purchases are thru his FB posts.  Makes me wonder where he stores them all, so next time when I visit him I'll have to see.... [smiles] he has the same guilty pleasures as me, in that we both love SHOES!

I couldn't resist reposting his FB post yesterday of some the original Air Jordan XI sketches from genius Tinker Hatfield. Isn't it amazing how much thought, detail and process goes into designing these shoes from the genius himself.

Here is my nephew DJ Erock with Pitbull, Pete Wentz and Selena Gomez at one of his function with San Francisco's radio station 99.7. If you are ever in town you can check him out at the Infusion Lounge in SF and also in Las Vegas at the Haze Nightclub. 

>>DESIGN CONTEST - A TALENT FOR SHOES

The international contest for young designers Un Talento per la Scarpa (A Talent for Shoes) is promoted by Sammauroindustria, the association that connects the main footwear businessmen of San Mauro Pascoli (Casadei,Pollini, Sergio Rossi, Vicini) in collaboration with Confindustria (the Italian Employers Federation) of Forlì-Cesena.

For this edition, the subject is Melting Shoes, intercultural contaminations, and the young designers attending are invited to create an outline of a shoe, together with stylistic researches and mixes of images, to be sent before February 29th, 2012.

Participation is free, and only for young people born after December 31st, 1980; those who attend design, art or fashion schools can instead participate with no limit of age.

The prize is an internship of three and a half months at Cercal, the Shoes International School, and a six-months internship at one of the four footwear companies that are connected with Sammauroindustria. During this period, the competition winner will receive a fund of 6.000 euro.

Fiera di Vicenza, in collaboration with the School of Design of Milan’s Polytechnic, launches a contest for young under 30 jewelry designers.

The design contest is NEXT JENERATION - JEWELLERY TALENT CONTEST and requires young participants to develop a precise topic: they will have to create jewelry inspired by Souvenir d’Italie, that is to say objects capable of evoking top-quality Italian talents with a contemporary aesthetics.

Designers will be able to choose freely the materials to be employed, while they will be asked to submit classic pieces of jewelry: rings, earrings, pendants, necklaces, bracelets and brooches.

The selection and assessment of the products will take into consideration not only their originality and innovation level, but also the ability to interpret the souvenirs according to a contemporary design, to the interaction with the body and to a possible serial production.

With this initiative Fiera di Vicenza invests on the creativity of young designers: the contest is a key scouting instrument to highlight and promote talents on the international scene.

The contest is open to all under 30 Italian and non-Italian designers (born by 30 January 1982). Each candidate may present distinct design solutions as long as they are original and expressly created for the competition, to be submitted separately.

Contestants should send in their works by 16 March 2012.

Meet our featured young and talented artist PHILLIPPA COPPING, she is based in England, UK and is a Textile Surface Designer. She has recently completed her work experience with Zandra Rhodes in London, and has exhibited at the Indigo trade show in Paris.  You'll have to visit her blog, phillippalovesdesign.blogspot.com, she does a wonderful job showcasing her beautiful work and sharing her ideas from concept to finished products.


Here are some of her most recent work she submitted for her Acid Tropics Final Collection - Minor Project. All of her prints were created using traditional screen printing techniques which includes pigment, discharge, foil and metallic.
