Women's Essential Color F/W 2016-17, Vibrant Fruity Tones

This week, the Trendstop catwalk team invites Fashion Vignette readers to be inspired by essential shades emerging in Fall 2016 womenswear, as they reveal three influential new trends taken from this season’s color palette.

Spanning both Fashion Colours and Accents, these vibrant, fruity tones add a fashion-forward feel to products, offering a bold alternative to more conventional winter darks. While they are coming through strongly in directional F/W 16-17 collections, these colors would also work well for more mainstream ranges going into Fall 2017.

Editors’ Top Picks - A Sneak Peek.

THEME: Beaux Arts / New York

Beaux Arts reflects Fashion Snoops’ Visionary trend of the same name. While there is a 70s component, it is a clean and graphic look with statement stripes and traditional plaids. Victoria Beckham does it best with slim midi silhouettes and a retro palette.

    COLOR: Aurora Red / Milan

Milan collections feature a more extensive range of colors than what appeared in London and New York. New softened tones like dusty peach and pink emerge. Blues convey a dominant message with compelling mid-shades of riverside and ocean. Aurora red remains key and is accompanied by jewel hues iris and wine. Spicy colors include mustard and burnt orange, while greens like forest and army are also highlighted.

    GRAPHIC: Clean Geos / London

Geometrics are again clean, as we see perfect symmetrical repeats as well as shapely color blocking.

    DESIGN DETAIL: Ruffles / Milan

Milan collections lived up to their Made in Italy branded craftsmanship with an abundance of frills and embellishments. Speaking of frills, ruffles were seemingly everywhere, along with various forms of embroidery, sequins and appliqué. Mixed media combinations were especially intricate, with some of the best examples involving fur. Pleats were another highlight. Silhouette direction focused on volume with exaggerated shoulders and full sleeves. Other highlights included neck ties and fur trim.

    MUST-HAVE: Overcoat / New York

At our first view into the Fall/Winter season, New York designers tend to read commercial when it comes to key items. Must-haves from the collections include mid-calf silhouettes in either dresses or skirts, overcoats and culottes or wide leg pants. Dresses made quite an impression considering the season, with favorites like the slip, sweater or maxi dress. In skirts, a-line shapes move forward. Woven and knit tops continue the trend for higher necklines with Victorian blouses and turtleneck sweaters. Bow blouses are another highlight. In outerwear, classics like the parka and bomber jacket are accompanied by new sleeveless jacket and coat options.

TOP DESIGNER: Mary Katrantzou / London

Mary Katrantzou created a collection full of fun imagery that was shown throughout patterns and appliques. The designer talked backstage about a child’s love for dressing up and expanded into her love for early 50s Western styling, which reflected throughout the show.

Bucket bags are revisited with structured designs for added sophistication, on show with sturdy textures that hold their forms like glossy leather and luxe snakeskin. Drawstring closures add a sportive twist, while textured finishes and fashion colour blocking makes for a directional look.

     THE SADDLE  BAG

The saddle bag emerges as a key accessories style for fall, characterised by a rounded silhouette, flattened profile and single shoulder strap. Leather textures add structure in matte or shine finishes, as seen in stark monochrome or warm neutrals. Contrast straps stand out with woven details or patterning, as furry panels add a tactile interest.

    THE  THICK  STRAP  HANDBAG

Feminine handbags express a quirky twist with a play on detailing, as straps are reinforced in thick new shapes. Applied to satchels and cross-body styles alike, wide straps are highlighted by contrast colours, oversized studs or heavy embellishment. Luxe materials and directional prints keep designs looking sophisticated.
