TRENDS // FASHION SNOOPS - WOMEN'S COLOR FORECAST . SS 2017

Women's Color Forecast, Editors' Top 10 Picks for S/S 2017

Fashion Snoops’ SS17 Color Forecast identifies five key palettes: Rise, Blossom, Subtropics, Shore and Dusk. Emphasis is placed on two mid-tones palettes: SHORE colors reflect that of the Northern California coastline with soft land and sea tones; while SUBTROPICS offers a lively color suited for high Summer collections. The BLOSSOM palette includes pastels coloring the romantic looks of the season. RISE features both proven and emerging bright colors, while DUSK offers dark and mysterious jewel tones. This special report is for Fashion Vignette members, courtesy of Fashion Snoops. The full report is available in our Trend Shop.

BLOSSOM - PASTELS PALETTE

Blossom features this season’s new pastel range, with both equally soft and more saturated hues. Bluebell is a favorite as the most influential pale blue. Warm pastels include petal pink and thistle purple, while frost pink and ice purple are cooler options. Yellow proves influential particularly in a creamy shade of buttermilk, as well as a more traditional daffodil hue. Aqua and orchid are offered as brighter pastels. The nude conversation evolves with peach fuzz, and dark salmon serves as a nice contrast to the lighter traditional pastel hues.

    ORCHID
Orchid is the most saturated hue in the pastel palette. Evolving from lighter shades of lilac, orchid embraces bright purple tones.

    DARK SALMON
Dark salmon brings something new to the pastel palette, with coral undertones.

    BLUEBELL
This season, bluebell is one of the most essential hues of the season. Tones range from a cloudy shade to a slight aqua undertone.

    BUTTERMILK
Buttermilk offers a creamy yellow pastel in contrast to the more saturated daffodil.

SUBTROPICS - WARM MIDTONE PALETTE

Subtropics explores a well-rounded palette of mid-tones. Warm colors like lava, Indian red and chili powder apply orange and red undertones, adding spice to the group. Crimson red remains relevant along with oasis, this season’s teal hue. Yellow is featured in marigold and a brown cast mustard seed. Other fashion colors include cerise pink, purple rain and juniper green. Syrup is offered as a new warm brown hue.

    OASIS
The teal conversation continues to be relevant with this season’s oasis.

    CHILI POWDER
Shades of copper have become a major focus over the past several seasons, evolving to a warm chili powder.

SHORE - MUTED MIDTONE PALETTE

The Shore palette features faded mid-tones that borrow from the scenery of the Northern California coast. A complete range of new neutrals brings newness to the group, including tawny, bisque, hay stack and taupe. Brittle enters as a warmer Spring alternative to camel. Tones like sea glass, dove and lavender grey give off a cloudy, yet soft feeling. Antique white fits right in as a weathered alternative.

    PERIWINKLE
Periwinkle is the brightest color in the Shore palette, evolving from a softer chambray hue.

    ANTIQUE ROSE
Antique rose brings something fresh to the traditional range of pinks. As a mid-tone, the color is fully saturated and looks best when paired with delicate materials.

DUSK - JEWEL TONES PALETTE

Dusk features jewel tones as well as dark, rich neutrals. Familiar favorites include maroon and ivy, while on the base end of the conversation, olive and navy remain powerful. Blue alternatives include an intense shade of indigo, as well as deep sea, which signals that teal shades are still relevant. Brown tones include cacao and sludge. Mulberry, ivy and army round out the fashion color offering for the palette.

    OLIVE
Olive remains a power player, though it becomes darker this season.

    MAROON
After the past few seasons with burgundy at the forefront of the jewel palette, maroon emerges with slight brown undertones.

Pattern Observer strives to help you grow your textile design business through their informative articles, interviews, tutorials, workshops and private design community, The Textile Design Lab. To learn more and sign up for their resources, visit their website patternobserver.com.

We have been a regular reader of Pattern Observer since Fashion Vignette was launched.  We wanted to share their recent and inspiring post from their blog, a challenge on their Textile Design Lab on WGSN's "Tidal Beachcomber" trend for Spring/Summer '17.  Below are some of the featured and stand-out work that was created for this challenge.  You can view the entire post and other prints here

    ADRIANA GENERALLO

The actual oceanic motifs were the primary inspiration for this collection, but I wanted to abstract these a bit and work with textures that evoked an underwater sensation. I spent a lot of time creating the individual motifs with layouts already is mind so when I moved to Photoshop it was mostly execution mixed with some unexpected deviations. Watercolor seemed like a natural fit and helped keep the tone of the collection consistently on brief.”
Portfolio site: www.generallo.com

    PARMEET ARORA BORI

“Inspired from the WGSN Tidal Beachcomber story-  I was particularly drawn to painted shells, splashes of water and markings on sand. Instead of going for just indigos I wanted subtle colours showing through. I played around with few mediums but found Gouache paints  and pencil colours best to experiment with. As am doing sellable sketch course too, it really helped me focus on just sketching once my mood board was in its place. I truly enjoyed a month challenge to keep sketching and coming up with this collection of prints.”

Here is a preview of their Spring/Sumer 2017 trends and colors.  You can view their trends and interactive color info, here.

You can find all of the season’s fashion information and themes in the Spring Summer 17 colour-range booklet on sale in their e-boutique, and illustrated in the Première Vision Paris forums.

A colour range for Spring Summer 17 with unexpected affinities fostering attractions between markedly different tones.
The range brings out the bond between fragility and strength, and strives for a balance between hyper-expression and ultra-discretion. It reveals subtle harmonies between luminous vibrancy and colorful neutrals, and plays on jolting rhythms and explosive synergies.

A STORY OF TANGIBLE COLOURS

Tones look almost too realistic, full, warm and ruddy tones, the colours of skin, flesh and raw meat, colours that are edible, sensual and sensory.

NUANCES OF SHADOW AND LIGHT

Colours play together in nuances of vapours, powders and transparencies, hesitant colds and fresh lively tones with a shy dreaminess, and an interplay of evanescent brightness and magnetic darks.

A GRATING AND COLOURFUL ENERGY

An energising rhythm of colourful pales and dazzling brights, of effervescent and jubilant bitter-sweet notes, of supernatural, sweet and pungent floral tones, of vitamin-boosted, dissonant and impertinent contrasts.

She learns about folk through music and handmade crafts and appreciates that the genre is deeply rooted to the native inhabitants of the area. Exploring other cultures and appreciating their traditional design processes is the main objective for Spring. This is evident in Colorful tradition, which brings to life Wax prints, Havana Tiles which adds perfect symmetry to the season and Lasting Imprint, which appreciates the beauty and talent involved with woodblock printing. Designs are intricate and cultural within Bazaar and Mandala, both of which benefit from a rich berry palette, and the tribal print is reinvented for Spring when it comes to pattern composition and color choice.

TRENDS // TREND ATELIER - WONDER WANDER . AW 2016/17

Their work inspires design teams through seminars, targeted trend research and design advisory. They also work with fashion labels on bespoke creative strategies which have led to best-selling collections for companies in the USA and UK.

Trend Atelier:Macro Trend Forecast “WONDER WANDER” AW 2016/17

WONDER WANDER proposes a new definition of cultural identity and spirituality and focuses on design leaders exploring these concepts and propelling them into the future. Stylistically it creates a hybrid of anthropological references, combining futuristic aesthetics with nomadic and Inuit inspiration.

In terms of shape and design details- look into Ceremonial robes and costumes, oversized and over-layered with inclusions of decorative patterns, referring back to Alaskan and Inuit cultural references. This inspires elongated parka shapes, experimental knitwear combinations and patchworked outerwear inspired by polar clothing.

A strong direction for beauty, Wonder Wander refers to digital face mapping, new 3D digital makeup printing and resonates these groundbreaking technologies with Ancient tribal masks. There is a Legendary and mythical quality to the trend looking as fantasy empowers people to create superhero versions of themselves.

For Colourutilize a PRIMAL AND STARK combination, pairing fire red and sunflower yellow with moody darks, greens and touches of ochre, which ground the palette.
